2013 Ditch List

Here is my obligatory New Year post! I welcome 2013 with open arms. This is the year that I will graduate from undergrad, hopefully be accepting a full-time job offer, and potentially be moving to New York City! These are all things that I look forward to, but there are some things that I wish would just go away in 2013.

MY 2013 DITCH LIST

1.) PLATFORMED BOOTS

Platform Boots

There’s only very few girls that can pull these off, but I think that even now they should stop trying.

These shoes are fun but now I think their uniqueness has faded, which was really the only fun part of them.

2.) WEDGED SNEAKERS

Wedge Sneakers
I really couldn’t believe these were ever a trend. I remember on Facebook there were always spam posts of
pictures that friends of mine were tagged in and the pictures would be of wedged Nike sneakers for women. I kept seeing these pictures over the past few years, so I’m glad they finally got their moment of fame but now it’s time to go!

3.) CUT-OUTS

cutouts

I loved the cut-outs trend and got in on it too. While I was working at Saks (one full year ago), I would see this among contemporary designers but now you see it just about everywhere! I still think it’s cute but it’s reached its peak.

4.) DOUCHEBAGS

Douchebags

Another thing to cut-out? Douchebags! From the stories that I hear from my friends and also from what I’ve learned from my own experiences, I have realized that the “bad boy” persona is not hot anymore. We all know the type (but in case you don’t, I’m talking about the cocky, selfish, easily influenced by friends, doesn’t know what chivalry is type of guy.) So here’s to the guys who got away with a lot more than they should have, your hot exterior but your douchebag interior: cheers to 2013 because hopefully girls have learned better for this new year!

5.) 50 SHADES OF GREY

50 Shades

I’ve seen people try to create a costume from this book and even my best friend has read all three of the books. They have been referred to as “mommy porn”. I mean, really? For couples looking to spice up their love lives, refer to something a little more “conventional” such as Cosmopolitan. Hopefully, the obsession with these series will die down completely this year.

6.) PEPLUMS

Peplum

Peplum everything, everywhere. It makes sense because they can be flattering on women with wider hips, even though I’ve seen it worn wrong plenty of times. However, it’s gotten to be excessive now. I loved seeing the peplum accents on dresses of designers such as Alice & Olivia, but now like the cut-out trend, it’s been worn out (partially thanks to Kim Kardashian).

7. ) MISUSE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Facebook

Oh lord, Facebook and Twitter can drive me crazy sometimes. Shamefully, I don’t remove some of the people I’m “friends” with because their posts somehow make me feel a little bit better about myself.
There’s always that girl who complains about being single or the guy who tries incredibly hard to compose a witty comment on someone’s status.
I thought now that social media also serves as a major marketing tool, Facebook and Twitter would stop playing a dual role as someone’s personal diary.  It can definitely be entertaining, but annoying nonetheless.

That just about sums it up! This is my own personal list, so you may not agree which is fine. Anyways, happy new year everyone and enjoy!

  1. By far one of your best posts yet! I was laughing so hard! My favs: “Shamefully, I don’t remove some of the people I’m “friends” with because their posts somehow make me feel a little bit better about myself.” and “So here’s to the guys who got away with a lot more than they should have, your hot exterior but your douchebag interior” HAHAHAHA!! And thank you for enlightening me on what peplums are; I had no idea what the heck that meant when I read the title. But on a serious note, great job on the posts and I am amazed at how well you write. Proud of you little sister =)
